Centering lived experience involves creating an environment where individuals can share their experiences and insights, ensuring that this knowledge is recognized and integrated into decision-making processes. It means prioritizing the perspectives of those who have firsthand experiences, rather than merely viewing them as beneficiaries of an organization’s mission. By centering lived experience, we aim to amplify the voices of people from diverse backgrounds, including them in strategic planning and work direction, as well as ensuring their representation among staff, board and committee members.
